What Botox and Fillers Actually Do (and Don't Do)

Botox (botulinum toxin) temporarily relaxes targeted facial muscles to soften expression lines such as forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet, typically lasting three to four months before a repeat session is needed. Dermal fillers, usually hyaluronic-acid based, add volume to areas like cheeks, lips or nasolabial folds and generally last longer than Botox, from around six months up to roughly a year or more depending on the product and area treated. Neither is permanent, and neither is a substitute for surgical procedures like a facelift or rhinoplasty — see our rhinoplasty guide if you are actually looking for structural nose reshaping rather than non-surgical treatment.

Who Should Actually Be Administering the Injection

In Turkey, these procedures should be performed by a licensed physician (typically a dermatologist or plastic surgeon) rather than an unlicensed beautician, and this is the single most important safety check before booking. Ask specifically for the practitioner's medical licence and specialty, not just the clinic's general accreditation — a well-marketed clinic does not guarantee the person doing your injections is a physician.

Product Authenticity and Traceability

Ask the clinic which specific brand of toxin or filler they use and whether you can see the sealed product box opened in front of you. Counterfeit or unlicensed filler products are a genuine risk in the medical tourism market generally, not specific to Turkey, and verifying product provenance is a reasonable and normal question to ask any clinic anywhere.

Combining Treatments and Realistic Expectations

Many patients combine Botox, filler and skin treatments such as PRP in a single visit — see our PRP treatment guide for that complementary option. A responsible practitioner will recommend a conservative first session and a follow-up review rather than maximising product volume in one sitting, since results are easier to adjust upward at a later visit than to correct if overdone.
