Who Can Sponsor Whom

Eligible sponsors typically include foreign residents holding a qualifying permit (work-based residence is the most common, though specific eligible categories can vary) and Turkish citizens. Family members who can generally be included are: a legal spouse, and biological or legally adopted children under 18. Some categories allow dependent parents under narrower conditions. Because the exact sponsor-eligibility rules are set by Göç İdaresi and periodically adjusted, confirm your household's specific eligibility before assuming a category qualifies.

Income and Housing Requirements

The sponsor generally needs to demonstrate sufficient income to support the additional family members and adequate housing (measured, in practice, partly by square footage per person in some assessments). These thresholds are administratively set and revised periodically — don't rely on an outdated figure from an old source; verify the current requirement directly.

Application Sequencing

The sequence matters: the sponsor's own residence permit must already be valid (and ideally not close to its own expiry) before a family member's application can proceed smoothly. If the sponsor's permit needs renewing soon, consider sorting that first — see our residence permit extension guide — rather than layering a family application on top of an about-to-expire sponsor permit.

What This Guide Does Not Cover

This article focuses on family reunification specifically. If your household situation is really about a work permit holder's own status, see our work permit guides; if it's about a student bringing family, note that student-based sponsorship has its own narrower eligibility that's worth confirming directly with a consultant.
